Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to secondary school students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), ensuring their individual needs are met effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and SENCO to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and specialized interventions to support students' learning and development.
  • Assist with personal care tasks and mobility support for students with complex needs, promoting their independence and well-being.
  • Use a variety of communication and sensory strategies to engage and support students in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, offering encouragement, motivation, and emotional support to help them overcome challenges and succeed.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to promote a holistic approach to meeting the needs of students with SLD.
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the welfare and safety of all students in our care.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or Specialist Support Assistant in a secondary school setting, preferably with experience supporting students with SLD.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs, such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Specialist knowledge and expertise in supporting students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), including understanding of communication and sensory strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting the diverse needs of students with SLD.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and upholding the highest standards of practice.
